                                        The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN) is a non-profit
                                        organization created in 1980 to further the understanding and
                                        conservation of marine mammals through rescue and rehabilitation,
                                        research and education.  The TMMSN consists of six regions along
                                        the Texas coast, which provide a coordinated response to
                                        all marine mammal strandings along the Texas coastline.

                                       
The TMMSN receives no state funding and receives only limited
                                        institutional support in the form of grants.  TMMSN RELIES on the
                                        donations of time and funds from generous supporters to continue
                                        it's mission dedicated to rescue, rehabilitation, research, and
                                        education.

The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network's Annual Gala, "Into the Blue", will take place on Galveston's famed Colonel Paddlewheel Boat this year!

Latest News From TMMSN
January 29, 2013
TMMSN responded to a deceased manatee near Matagorda, performed a necropsy and collected data on the stranding event.  Manatees are rarely found on the Texas coast and have a tough time surviving the winter months here.

January 20, 2013
TMMSN rescues bottlenose dolphin that ran aground in the shallows and became trapped near Talley Island just south of Rockport, TX.

A live bottlenose dolphin stranded on PINS in Corpus Christi, TX. Unfortunately, the dolphin died on the beach just prior to transport to rehab.

October 19, 2012
Second live stenella species recovered by TMMSN on PINS today, a Spinner dolphin (Stenella longirostris) stranded in Corpus Christi, TX. Unfortunately, the Spinner dolphin died shortly after arrival to rehabilitation.

What to do if you find a stranded dolphin or whale
  • Call 1-800-9-MAMMAL
  • DO NOT return the animal to the sea.
  • Follow instructions from TMMSN staff
    until the rescue team arrives.
  • Keep people and pets away from the
    animal. Only one or two people are needed
    until expert help arrives. Do not leave the
    animal.
