Clix, a melon-headed whale (Peponocephala electra) calf, stranded alive November 5, 1998 in Corpus Christi, TX. An adult female melon-headed whale, believed to be the calf's mother stranded on the beach two miles away, but unfortunately died on the beach. Clix was 114 lbs and 5 feet, 10 inches long upon stranding. Initially, he appeared to be doing well. There were no signs of infection, though he did show elevated enzyme levels which were presumed to be stress related. He had a healthy appetite and consumed 4 kg of fish per day. November 13, he was moved to Texas State Aquarium's Sea Lab and into a 40,000 gallon pool where he began swimming on his own the following day. Despite the best efforts of his caregivers, Clix passed away December 10, 1998.
