On October 29, 1995, the TMMSN received a call that there was a live dolphin on the beach ashore in front of the San Luis Hotel at 53rd Street in Galveston, just two blocks away from our rehabilitation facilities. Initially, Nemo's blood was not clotting, however on a recommendation from local and SeaWorld veterinarians, he was put on vitamin K to control the bleeding. "The Old Man of the Sea", captured the imagination of all who saw him and after several months of antibiotics, vitamins, and plenty of fish, Nemo was ready to be returned to the sea. On January 12, 1996, Nemo was fitted with a satellite transmitter and an entourages of TV and newspaper reporters. The release of this gentle giant was the focus of the Bridget Fonda special "Dolphins In Danger". Nemo was transported to a loading dock in the Galveston Ship Channel to be loaded onto the Coast Guard Cutter, Point Spencer where he was released after approximately 30 minutes of travel out into the Gulf of Mexico. Seeing Nemo return to the wild was the hope and joy of every Network volunteer come true.
